Kanazawa Art Studio

Established in April 2007 to provide a creative environment for people with intellectual and mental disabilities and a good artistic sense, to help them to become independent artists in the future. Artists are selected by screening of their artworks and interviews with the artists and their families, and the organisation manages and mediates the sale of originals and reproductions of artworks and the use of image data for media and project products. Royalties (royalties, etc.) for works used in each project are paid to individual artists to help them become self-reliant and support their sustainable participation in society through their works.

Mr. Masari Takahashi

His work, which calmly expresses his emotional balance and emotional flow, reminds one of a psychologist. In 2018, he switched from markers to watercolours and enjoys the scuffiness and unevenness of his brushwork. Usually a kind-hearted interior decorator and father of two.

Ms. Risa Takamine

She started drawing when she was in nursery school. She specialises in colour expression using all kinds of images, including pen and acrylic paints, and using reliable techniques. In recent years, she has also worked on symbolic paintings of flowers and people.

Mr. Yohei Hosokawa

He began drawing his favourite cartoons as a child and started painting in earnest, using photographs as his subject matter, when he was in high school. He once suspended his creative activities, but with the support of those around him, he picked up his brush again. His original paintings are large with bold deformations and trimming, and many of his dynamic works are on display in his home and gallery, Yohei Art.

Ms. Kaede Wajima

Since childhood, she has loved fairy tales, princesses and fantasy. From origami to paper cut-outs and eventually to her own paintings. She expresses the world of her imagination in a variety of ways, including princess dresses and magic. Aside from creating paintings, she also devotes herself to creating stories and scenarios. Her future dream is to become a film director.

Mr. Kanta Wajima

Around the age of two, he began to express herself through pictures instead of words. Based on his knowledge of the things that interest her, he expresses them as detailed and delicate drawings. His subjects range from familiar things such as cartoons and characters to themes that have global relevance, and he paints every day, putting his own solid thoughts onto his brush.

Group Happy Smile

“Group Happy Smile” is a non-profit organization that aims to create an environment (space) that brings smiles to the faces of all who gather together, regardless of whether or not they have disabilities.

Mr. Soichiro Omori

He paint as he pleases, using motifs of "spinning things" in their memory, such as ventilation fans and outdoor units. Sometimes, figures and human figures can be seen in their art.

KOICHI

Since he started painting, they have continued to draw cars, which he loves, and his total number of works with car motifs exceeds 100. In this exhibition, five of his works, including "Working Cars," are selected from among them.

Mr. Yasumasa Sugawara

Exhibited at the Art Brut exhibition in France in 2019. Afterwards, he triumphantly exhibited in Aoyama, Tokyo. His works, meticulously expressed with a single ultra-fine ballpoint pen, have received praise both in Japan and abroad.

Mr. Fumio Otani

Studied Japanese-style painting in earnest after exhibiting their work in an amateur exhibition more than 20 years ago. His style is characterized by motifs of nature such as birds and trees.

Mr. Ismail Kimura
He draws outlines with simple lines, which gives his work a clear finish. The works are popular with many people and are sometimes commercialised as hand towels and stationery.
Ms. Emi Yamamoto
Her representative works are portraits of actors, musicians and other familiar people, which she interprets in her own unique way. The drawings attract the viewer because they do not look exactly like the characters, but somehow capture their characteristics.
Mr. Mamoru Sakurai
The artist uses coloured pencils, magic pens and acrylic paints to draw in fine detail. He expresses his view of the world on the entire surface of the frame, including colouring in the framing mat.
Ms. Mikoto Sakai
When drawing, he is more particular about the pen (magic) than others. This work was drawn with the image of the coming 'summer' as inspiration.
Mr. Tetsuya Takizawa
He started painting more than a decade ago as a result of studio activities at the institution. He draws with sensitivity, using illustrated books and other materials as reference.
Mr. Takahiro Yamaura
His works are painted in the motif of 'circles'. The multi-layered 'circles' are expressed in a variety of shades and abrasions of coloured paint, inviting the viewer into a world of coloured tridori.
Mr. Ken Wataya
The artist's favourite drawing material is crayons. He paints as he pleases, as if he was filling the canvas with crayons. Note the contrast between paint and crayon expressed in the work.
Mr. Shinichi Sasaki
Usually draws with a biro or brush. When he does not have the strength to hold a pen, he sometimes paints with paint on his hands or uses familiar tools such as marbles.
